Over time I’ve developed a mental list of “slow responders”. Almost
unconsciously I tune right on past.

Here's another view from somebody who was 100% S&P last weekend. Say somebody I
need as a double-mult is calling CQ, and I put my callsign in the pile-up to
work him. While the pile-up is still calling, the needed station comes back
with "W7VO 5911". I can't hear him come back to me over the pile-up, and can
only hear him when the pile up dies down. Then he comes back with a "W7VO 5911"
a second time, or maybe even a third time, and I finally can give him my
exchange. I feel bad that he had to come back to me several times, but it's not
my fault the lids just keep calling over the QSO. I really APPRECIATE that the
op stuck with me to make the QSO. That happened to me several times last
weekend.
