I am not involved in log checking, but the answer seems clear in the SS
rules themselves. A QSO with a miscopied exchange is* removed* from the
log without penalty. So if there is a dupe with the correct exchange, that
"dupe" would become a valid QSO with full credit (since, with removal of
the first QSO for an exchange error the second QSO no longer is a "dupe").
Since the error was a mis-copied exchange with no penalty added, the second
QSO would completely offset the points lost by the first QSO. The
pertinent part of the current SS rules state:

 "Log Checking Penalties

Logs are cross-checked using custom software and human judgment.
LGCK.1. Duplicate contacts are removed with no additional scoring penalty.
LGCK.2. Contacts with call sign errors ("Busted") or that are not found in
the corresponding log ("NIL") are removed from the log and an additional
scoring penalty of the QSO point value of that contact is assessed.
LGCK.3. Contacts with an incorrectly received exchange are removed with no
additional scoring penalty."
