Greetings again.

If someone is faced with the same problem I was earlier,
check to see if the CW button is depressed on the TS940.
Mine was and I hit the USB button and the CW stuff went away.

Guess it is a fallback to before "Mixed mode" was incorporated
into the setup.

Interesting tho, Control F1 of F2 will NOT change the mode.
