Rich,

Setting up NA to do RTTY contesting is pretty easy.  The canned messages
are set up just like CW.  For RTTY operation, the screen runs in 50-line
mode (normal is 25) so the regular NA stuff appears in the upper half of
the screen and the RTTY terminal appears in the lower part.

However, you're probably going to have problems running it with the
MFJ-1278.  The issue is how to get NA to switch the TNC into transmit, and
back to receive, at the beginning and end of the canned messages.  This is
done through control characters.  I went to MFJ's web site and looked
through the manual for the 1278 and could not find the information.  I also
sent an e-mail to their tech support site and got no response - that was
nine months ago.

If you can tell me which keys put the 1278 into transmit, and which return
it to receive, we should be able to make this work.
