Hal,
The .LOG file generated from any NA version after about 10.42 is a Cabrillo
file; before that it was the old ARRL .LOG format.
When N5KO was gathering input concerning Cabrillo, I argued for a new file
extention to uniquely identify Cabrillo files but my suggestion was
rebuffed. Never mind that some contest logging programs decided to use
.CBR or .TXT instead.
In recent versions, the base filename of the Cabrillo file will be the same
as the .QDF from which it was generated. Originally, the file was named
<callsign>.LOG where <callsign> was the station call used. Since
<callsign> is usually the same, this led to files accidentally overwritten
and occasionally the wrong file would get submitted. Some time back we
queried the user base and the prevailing opinion was to use the .QDF base
filename instead, even though this requires the user to rename the file
prior to submittal.
