Well, if you get as annoyed at the noise as I did, you can do what I
did.  Go to VHF FM.  And I don't mean repeaters.

Yeah, yeah, I know... not the same as HF.  True, but VHF has it's own
charms.  Last week I worked a guy on 2 meter simplex about 60 miles
from me, with an 11,000 foot mountain in between us.  That's about as
far from line of sight as it gets and yet we had a nice long chat.
Southern California is crisscrossed with mountain ranges and they can
provide a good bounce when the angles are right.

Also last week, mobiles on six meters were working all over the
country.

I've been hamming for 46 years, been there, done everything, but that
QSO will always stand out as something special.

DX is in the eye of the beholder.  :-)
