I just placed a picture on my site showing the connectors and the screen.

http://www.greenrover.demon.co.uk/images/cat5.jpg

A - shows the contact on the hub

B - is the point where the connector shell bonds to the cable screen.

I'm not sure if its obvious from the picture but the screen of the cable
is trapped between the jacket and the metal shell where it folds inside
the cable entry.

The screen contact does not use any of the 8 contact pins.

Yes they are interchangeable with unscreened connectors - but obviously
if you use a none screened contact its not screened :-)

Available from just about any of our normal component suppliers, RS -
Farnell CPC etc..

Yes you can fit them onto cable if you have the correct jaw for your
crimping tool.

This is about the cheapest Ethernet device I could find in the workshop
and the connector is screened, every one of the Ethernet connectors on
the PC's hubs and routers I have here has a screened chassis
connector.. I'd be surprised if anything except the cheapest nastiest
kit uses unscreened connectors these days.
