The aluminum rain gutter on my home is capable of being
an antenna of sorts - but it only becomes one if I clip a line
to it and load it with RF from a tuner - or likewise use it to
receive. Same with the house wiring - under normal circumstances
it is just metal hanging in the walls.
The problems with these devices are legend, the ARRL has
pages of reports and investigations and complaints to the FCC,
this list has also hosted many a discussion.
Others are far more capable of regaling you with the sad
tale of these things than am I - my purpose was to be one of
several to open the eyes of the uninformed folks on that magazine
site.
They are likely receiving, or soliciting, advertising
revenue - and the market is tough - so it will take a lot to
persuade them not to promote the product.
Of course if they are warned, promote the product, and
bad things result - they will lose credibility with their readers.
We shall see ...
I am going to be picky.
Tell me how these devices will turn the house wiring system into a giant
antenna. The house wiring is a giant antenna just in its natural state.
For the record, I have not noticed any interference from these Ethernet over
power line devices. I don't even notice any interference to or from my
2-Wire Ethernet/wireless router and a gigabyte switch sitting 18" from my
Orion.
Situations vary, or course, but I am curious as to what others have noticed.

Almost all of these devices generate a ton of radio frequency
interference - which could block emergency alert radios, irritate local
CB and Ham operators, and interfere with other devices in your home or
business.
This technology has been tried and rejected several times as they
turn
the whole wiring system into a giant antenna - even if new devices
appear to be RF-clean they often get "dirty" as they age.
Just something to consider .
