I *believe* the detectors are only good for 10 years now, and have to be
replaced. It will start beeping at 10 years and the beep cannot be turned
off.
Nothing read about battery life. I think the old saw, "Replace the
batteries when time changes.," still applies.

You may want to check the laws in your state, some states require smoke
detectors and possibly CO detectors to have 10 year batteries and be
replaced at some interval.
