I was once able to definitely determine that a particular source of interference was utility company related or a device connected to utility power. I fed the receiver’s speaker output into an oscilloscope and set the sweep to power line time base. Because the noise spikes were synchronized with my home’s 60 Hz power, the search for the source was narrowed a bit.
