To give you an idea how bad solar system noise can be, have a look at the video below. It shows the S-9 plus noise level caused by my neighbors solar system which is located 100 feet from my tower. The video was recorded AFTER SolarEdge installed their version of RFI suppression. The noise was about 10db worse without it. It's still unacceptable by any standard, but that's the boat I'm in. I have a minimal noise rise with my preamp on pointed over that direction on HF. I have bigger issues with another neighbors kitchen lights on 6 meters at the moment. There are solar arrays popping up on multiple houses in the area further away. I have had bigger issues with power line noise which is mostly resolved. I certainly feel like i have won multiple noise battles here but never feel like i won the war….ever Stephanie WX3KOn Aug 15, 2022, at 9:07 PM, Tony <73guddx@gmail.com> wrote: Stephanie: Your neighbors system might be one of the few on the market that produce less noise than others so consider yourself lucky. It may still produce noise, but keep in mind that the proximity of the installation to your antenna has a lot to do with how much noise is detected. The noise from my neighbors Solar Edge system reads S-9 on my HF mobile setup when parked 50 feet from his home and I have to move at least 200 feet away in order for the noise to drop off completely. My home station antenna is more than 100 feet away from that same neighbor, but the height and gain of the Yagi antenna brings the noise up to S-9 PLUS at that distance so antenna gain plays a role as well. Luckily, it goes away a night when the system shuts down. Sounds like you dodged a bullet so congratulations! I have a neighbor that has an installed system and i hear basically nothing that i can contribute to this installed system. It is functional as per the owner.
