dont be too sure its not in your house ( see Stephanies #1).......I had a similar problem a few years back, killed the power to my house at the disconnect right at the meter.....the noise continued...ahh ha, not in my place, right?!?!?Wrong, long story short it was my cable modem, we have voip phone service, and the cable company is required to have a battery backup in the modem so we can have phone if the power goes out....cable company came, swapped for a newer modem as the model I had was loooooong discontinued, and that noise source went away....now only 99 more to go.....

Hello Joe

I understand your frustration.

Some points to consider on your second visit through the home.

1) killing the main breaker in the house may not un power certain devices that
have battery backup

2) make a quality video clip using your cellphone with the radio in AM mode and
the bandscope in its widest span setting. Share this when asking for assistance.

3) what band is worse ?

4) can you listen to the RFI on a band that allows you to get a general azimuth
where the RFI peaks up

5) is it possible to hear the RFI on 6 meters ? I personally use a set to TV
rabbit ears with a balun hooked to my portable radio/receiver and walk around
the neighborhood to find where the interference is the strongest.

RFI can come from so many different sources. It may be even from multiple
sources.

Powerline RFI is common but not always the case. A 120 Hz buzz character is a
clue for power line noise.

Go to YOUTUBE and look up Mike K3RFI. He has excellent videos on chasing
powerline RFI.

I have spent MANY countless hours chasing RFI over the years. Its worth the
effort to MANAGE your noise floor. Please do not give up by turning off the
radio and walking away.

And remember the most important aspects of dealing with your neighbors, respect
and communication !

Good luck

For the past month, I am getting this gawd awful, RFI, periodically. It lasts
on average, maybe 30 seconds but sometimes won't quit, so I just turn the radio
off.
It is NOT in my house, I have turned power off to the house (Much to my wife's
displeasure as she has to reset everything!!) and the RFI is still present.

 Any thoughts anyone?

 Thanks in advance..
