In FSK it is not uncommon to have a small offset between RX and TX
simply because very few operators have a sufficiently developed sense
of pitch to accurately match the transmit tones. While using crossed
ellipse or other tuning indicators can help, they are not always enough
when tuning in a hurry, when dealing with QRM, or weak signals. A
restricted range AFC can often make the difference between copy and no
copy even if it results in a 10 or 20 Hz difference between TX and RX
frequencies.
