Comments:
Contest started off miserably. Software put the contact times all over the
place.
I know this is going to kill our score.
For a SFI of 125, 10 was a big surprise. My first EU QSO Saturday morning was
with IW9FRA at 1173 UTC, and we consistently made Q's on 10 for the next 12+
hours.
Had a nice, but short 10m LP opening to Asia Saturday AM, with some JA's and
one BY in the log.
15 stayed open to Asia in the evenings longer than I expected. From about 1130
UTC till 0400 on Saturday, 15m was open 'somewhere' Put 175 JA's in the log.
All this was WITHOUT my top 15 meter antenna. It was still sitting on
sawhorses in the field as the wx was too bad to get it back on the tower.
20 was, more or less, open to some part of the world for the whole contest.
Thailand, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong, dozens of Ja's and a bunch of YB's were
put in the log.
40 was the big producer of prefixes with 361 worked. 40 was not overwhelming,
but produced consistent contacts during periods of darkness.
New 40 meter 4 square (for second rig) was outstanding! While trying to figure
out the time issue on the 40 run computer, the second station picked up where
the stacked yagis had left off. We felt loud on the new array.
80 was a bit of a disappointment for me, personally. Everything was working
fine, but there was too much time where we just couldn't get the attention of
the EU stations. Think they were too busy working each other (with 40 over
signals) that they couldn't hear much of the US for the first hour, or so.
Would have been great to have more 6 pointers on this band.
Thanks to all who gave us a contact, or two. And, for the patience shown to
our two 'newbies' on Sunday afternoon, one on 20 and one on 10.
73 de the whole Goat Farm gang,
Steve, NR4M
