Several 3830 reports stated that 10 meters was dead during the OK RTTY DX
Contest.
Most every time I checked the bandscope was entirely devoid of any signals.
But, that could simply be due to no one transmitting, but only looking at
their bandscopes as I was.
Thanks to the Reverse Beacon Network, I knew within 2-3 minutes if the band
was indeed "open". After launching a couple CQs, the RBN gave me the SNR of
my signal as received at various points around NA and the world, where there
was propagation.
For most of the local daylight hours, my 600 watt signal from CA was 10-30
dB at Skimmers all over NA. Indeed, the few stations who called me were
quite strong and originated all over the continent. ZL1BYZ and VK4NDX were
copied here most of the day and very strong at times.
My point is that 10 meters is open more often than we realize. It may not
be apparent, though, until someone transmits.
