Yes, a 'dead' band could be no prop or no ops.
It's always worth firing out a few CQs and watching the RBN .. much more
certain than any forecast.

While I respect all the scientific propagation forecasts, I'm firmly
convinced that the activity in a major contest, changes it from a "less than
good" forecast, to "good". Nothing like a multitude of stations calling CQ,
or tuning the band answering CQ's!
