Yes, that's what it is doing.
I think the issue is "What should SD do when you change mode?",
and I'm inclined to think it should disable ESM.

It used to do this, but I found, as often as not, that the
old parameters were inappropriate when starting a new session,
so I removed this feature.
Anyone like to comment?
