All Yaesu rigs which have DX in their name (including FTDX5000) share
the same CAT-control parameters.
If I get other reports of CAT not working with these rigs it will
indicate a fault in SD. Otherwise, it might indicate less-than-optimum
parameter settings, possibly including the BPS parameter.
Please send me your SD.INI file. Please also do some tests - use the
PORTS command to try different BPS settings (set the rig to the same
value in each case).
It is normal, at startup, for SD to report no link with the rig - at
least until the link is established. This will happen also when SD
loses the link with the rig for any reason.

My FTDX5000 has a problem.
The CAT is not working, defective.
I use it in combination with SD.
At a certain moment SD did not receive data from the transceiver.
The green LED on the transceiver was OFF.
At startup SD mentions that there is no link with the tranceiver (no Rig
control, or a simular message).
Now I have to change BAND and MODE manual.
Yesterday in the PACC contest at a certain moment the SD program also went
wrong.
I could change the BAND, but after one or two seconds the change ended and SD
went back to the old BAND.
I tried this a number of times, but with the same result. The band remained
locked.
Then I checked the parameters under PORTS.
The USB port was still selected.
Now I changed the selection to 0.
And after this I could change BAND and MODE without a problem.
To my opinion there must not be a lock on BAND changing when the communication
is not functioning.
