Hello Karl,

I purchased my OMNI-VI+ in July '97 and had the very same problem.
Posting to the reflector came up dry for answers. In fact, a lot of
replys suggested that the birdies are normal for any receiver and
for me to get over it :^) They are not normal for an
instrument-grade receiver such as the OMNI, especially at high
levels when terminated into a 50Z load. Even when you turned the
main tuning knob you could hear the encoder buzzing. I sent the rig
back to TenTec and when it came back it was like day and night.
TenTec described the fix as "placement of grounds on the bandpass
board and rerouting signal wires". It is an incredible receiver
compared to my Corsair-II.

A second problem that promped the return of my rig was that
whenever I powered up the OMNI-VI+ the relays would buzz for up to
half a second and many times the microprocessor would reset the
radio to all defaults. Turned out to be an overvoltage protection
problem and a DC input board replacement.

Since then it has been absolutely terrific! Be persistent and you
will be well satisfied.......
