Folks,
The Scout does indeed have high audio power for use in mobile application.
This, coupled with the small amount of digital electronics associated with
display, and frequency control of the Permability Tuned Oscillator, (not a
synth.) may show up as low level digital noise, but only if you try to use HI
FI headphones, such as 8 ohm types.

Go get REAL communications phones like the military surplus types of 2000 or
better 15,000 ohms impedance. They will be so sensitive to only the
communications frequencies you WANT, that you will not hear the digital noise.
And yes, it is so level that sensitivity to external weak DX is NOT affected,
the Scout has an excellent receiving ability.

I have 15,000 ohms phones with ear pads of the Korean War vintage, and they
are wonderful for ham band use. Comfortable and sensitive to CW and SSB. The
pads were not original, but are makeup compact sponge disks with a hole cut in
the middle. Bought those at drug store. Convenitently, the ones you want
come two to a package.
