Greetings all,

The "threads" on the QRP amplifier situation reminded me of another angle
-- several years ago in QST (?) there was an article or two on using the
International Rectifier IRF series HEXFETS as class C and linear RF amps
up to about 50 watts out. Has anyone done anything more with this idea
or seen any additional write-ups? The only downside I remember was that
to get much power out the devices needed a B+ on the order of 24V or so.
With the IRF 500/600 series devices at about $2 a throw from Digi-Key
etc., it looks like a very low cost amp could be built, especially if
only one or two bands were desired. In fact, I notice that the Index QRP+
schematic shows an IRF510 in the PA --and it is a fairly simple circuit
to boot. Any comments from the group?

TNX/73,

Al WB5JNC
