Mark,

Check to see where the noise gate is set. In fact, don't even use it till
you get the audio set up. Sounds like you may have the threshold set so high
that it's not opening, allowing audio through.

I'm having some trouble getting my Heil Gold-Line mic and W2IHY 8 band
equalizer to work properly with my Pegasus.

Initially, the problem was that I couldn't seem to set the gain of the
equalizer low enough. Even with the equalizer output gain at the least bit
above minimum and the Peg's software mic gain slider at minimum, the ALC LED
was on almost all the time when I was talking. These tests were performed
with the RF output set to max and transmitting into a 50 ohm dummy load.

I contacted TenTec tech support and spoke with Paul (thanks, Paul). He told
me about the internal trim pot to adjust mic gain beyond the limit of the
software control. I was able to get this adjusted so the the ALC LED is only
on part of the time. It does seem that the adjustment of this trim pot is
very critical - just the slightest movement either way will cause the level
to be too low or too high. With the proper setting, I have the software mic
gain set about 1/3 up from minimum.

However, I can't seem to get the Peg's VOX to work. I have the VOX gain set
to max and the anti-VOX set to near minimum (Paul said that if anti-VOX is
at minimum, VOX won't work) and the VOX will not engage. If I increase the
gain of the equalizer considerably, I can get the VOX to work, but then the
mic level is way to high and the ALC LED is on solid.

For comparison, the same setup (mic and equalizer) seems to work just fine
with my Yaesu FT1000MP. The mic gain on the MP is set about 9:00 o'clock.
VOX seems to work fine with the controls well in the middle of their
respective ranges.

Any suggestions?
Mark
