How would binaural help your ability to copy cw? I suppose it would sound
cool, groovy and right-on but to me, adding a delay, echo, phase shift or
imitation quadraphonic sound would only confuse my little brain.
I find cw easiest to copy when I use a narrow band speaker such as the MFJ
ClearTone 281. Nowadays I even use two of them in parallel and one on each
side of the desk. These little speakers resonate at 650hz and require very
little power.
Place speaker down on your desk so you will have a solid plane in front if
it. Aim it/them toward your ears and keep them as close to your head as
possible. Internal rig speakers and most "matching" speakers are horrible
for fast cw. They fire audio out the rear, bouncing it off the wall which
arrives out of phase with the front fired audio thus further confusing the
mind plus they usually have a dull, thumpy sound instead of a crisp, clean
sound like the little MFJ's.
I have yet to find a pair of headphones that have these same features. Most
headphones are designed for music and are heavy in the base range and
require too much power. I've tried a lot of hi-fi phones and even some
communications types but they all seem too broad ranged for good cw copy.
