Hi, Jon,

I replaced that speaker in my power supply, too. The mounting nuts had been
tightened down way too much and had deformed the speaker structure, causing
the coil to scrape the magnet; in other words the coil wasn't moving freely
and sounded badly distorted.

If I had to offer any tips to you, my first might be to see if loosening the
nuts a little bit may remove the deformation that may be occurring in yours.
If you're lucky, that may be all you have to do.

The speaker is held by an aluminum plate with an oval cutout for the
speaker. The plate is attached to the front panel with four #8 or #6 nuts.
After removing the speaker, you'll unsolder the two wires going to it,
re-solder them to the new speaker, and mount the new speaker. I don't think
it's that hard.

Remember not to tighten that plate too much over the new speaker. It doesn't
need to be real tight. Use just enough torque on the nuts to keep the
speaker in place, otherwise you'll have the same problem again. Good luck!

R,

Al W6LX
