I heard recently that Ten Tec is now taking orders for the 526 Six and Two
meter rig. Has anyone on this list bought one yet and if so how does it
perform? I want one really bad and am replenishing my Ham Radio "slush
fund" so that I can buy one (my Triumph Spitfire restoration slush fund ran
out and I had to borrow some!).

You are better getting the Ten Tec HF models, and their new 6 and 2 separate
model.
