Hello Omni VI + users,

This is from my own personal and painful experience! Most YaeComWood
rigs have a relay that disconnects the antenna when the rig is turned
off. In addition, some have a gas discharge tube to discharge static
voltages at the antenna terminal. The Omni VI+ (at least those from the
production run that mine came from) have none of these protective
devices.

You should ALWAYS use a ** High QUALITY** external protector such as one
from Polyphasor. Also, it is a good idea to have the antenna grounded by
an external antenna switch when the rig is not in use. Always ground
YOURSELF before you connect or disconnect an antenna (or any other
cables) from the rig!

Now for some really bad news. My rig had several PIN switch diodes
shorted in the receiver front end. (Do you have low sensitivity on some
bands?). There were blown diodes in the ALC circuit and also a blown
OpAmp in the ALC circuit. (Does your SWR meter have a residual reading
and is the ALC led on all of the time?).

None of these were easy items to get to and repair. The OpAmp is a
surface mount device. After all of these items are repaired there are a
bunch of things that need to be re aligned. Unless you are an
experienced bench tech may I suggest that you return your rig to Ten Tec
for repair!!!!
