  I am not familiar with the Option 1 upgrade, but on my Omni VI+ (factory 
version), it's a straightforward low-pass filter.  It attenuates high 
frequencies, and allows low frequencies to pass through unattenuated.  I can 
set the filter frequency through menu settings, defining where the attenuation 
roll-off starts.  (Dont' have the radio in front of me; I'm at work.)
  I seldom use it, but it does sometimes help filter out noise.
