Although tentec has not yet released the programmer's manual for the Orion,
they have stated that everything you can do from the front panel will be
controllable from software. I am planning on releasing an Orion version of
my software as soon as possible that will control the Orion without front
panel usage. It will also feature using the rx340 with the Orion. The
RX340 has some advantages for SWL'ing because of sync AM and wider filters.
I am planning on implementing what I will call "Smart VFO" which will
examine the VFO A and VFO B frequencies and choose the best receiver for
each VFO. This will make it transparent to the operator that the main Orion
receiver is ham bands only.
