HI: As a very pleased Orion owner, no the optional filters are NOT necessary for CW. In fact, mine came with the options turned off, and it was several days before I got far enough down in the manual to see that I needed to enable them. Selectivity was amazing with just the DSP, and it's nothing short of awesome with the filters enabled. 73 Pete Allen AC5E |
