Jack, I was just wondering if you got the "straight thru" serial cable. That
is the version of "serial" cable that has worked on my Orion. I did have to
change some of the serial port settings in Win XP to make it work, but has
worked flawlessly since changing the default baud rate on the serial port to
57600(in settings, control panel, system, hardware, device manager, ports,
com1 or com2, port settings).

Kirby, W7SV

Messageafter taking radio and power supply and NEW 9 pin serial cable to
Mom's (across the street) i downloaded the latest update for the Orion from
RFSquared onto Mom's machine running Win98SE ...Update would not install so
i rebooted and tried again ...program again reported NO SERIAL
connection...so rebooted and tried Com2 again NO SERIAL connection...tried a
few more times after rebooting and either NO SERIAL or the other error
window ...

i am now convinced that there is something wrong with my Orion!

Tnx Jack for the reply. I do wish you luck.
I did manage to get my vox wrking reliably. We can discuss the settings
when you are in a position to utilize them.
GL, I will keep my fingers crossed.

Hello Crit, i have not succeeded in getting any software to load so that
the Orion can operate at all with my computer running WinXP home ...soon as
i can (maybe tonite) i will take the radio across the street, download the
latest flash software onto Mom's computer (running Win98SE) and see what
happens...just bought a new serial cable too in case something there is
amiss
will let you know how the update goes ...jack

      Good Morning Jack.
Well, are you up an operating, yet?
I find I am having trouble getting the vox setting right.
The rig either won't trigger (transmit) or when the computer is done
sending, the vox "ticks" and sends less than one second transmissions, but
does so for 30 seconds. When you get yours figured out...let me know what
settings you used. On google search, I read where most folks end up using
PTT instead of Vox cuz it is so picky.
      Tnx in advance.
