In addition to the need to lengthen an element to compensate for the leading
edge delay as Carl describes I am wondering if it would be worthwhile to
suggest to TT that the leading edge delay be adjustable for us AMP KEY 1 and
AMP KEY 2 key line users? The delay is longer that I would prefer. I've
measured my delay to be about 24-25 ms which seems to jive with Sinisa's,
YT1NT/VA3TTN, very excellent and complete measurements. It would be nice, I
believe, to allow the leading edge to be user adjustable from 5 ms to a max of
20-25 ms. which should track the trailing edge delay as described by Carl.

No, the QSK delay has nothing to do with this. All the QSK delay does it
change the time the receiver audio comes back on after transmitting. The
amp relay delay time is controlled by "Ext T/R delay". This is set from 0
percent to 100 percent with 100 percent equaling one second. This control
sets the extra time the amp key line stays on after the key line goes off.
It is used to keep the amp antenna relay from coming up and down for each CW
  element.

The keying problem That I was refering to in the earlier post can only be
comtrolled insode the Orion firmware. It relates to how long the
transmitter actually transmits compared to how the CW key line is on. The
transmitter keys 20 milliseconds (that 20/1000 seconds) after the CW key
line comes on. In order to make up for this loss of 20 milliseconds, the
transmitter should continue to stay on for 20 milliseconds after the key
line goes off but it doesn't. It only stays on for another 12 milliseconds
making all CW elements short by about 8 milliseconds. I see this as a
firmware bug that should be corrected.
