(sent to US Representative, Ed Case)

Hi Ed,

A new technology for delivering broadband internet service to households is be promoted by George Bush and others. The FCC, who is responsible for regulating the use of radio frequency spectrum, for the best benefit of Americans, is acting more as a cheerleader than a regulator for this flawed technology. The problem with BPL (broadband over power lines) is that it uses radio frequency spectrum that is uniquely suited for long distance communcations and is an irreplaceable national and international resource. BPL uses powerlines for communcations. On the surface it sounds like a great idea. Radio frequency currents on powerlines WILL RADIATE, causing terrible interference to radio communcations and broadcast reception in the HF (shortwave) spectrum. The intererence has already been documented, and in several European countries and Japan it has been outlawed. Yet in the USA promoters of BPL are in nearly complete denial of the interference potential and are rolling out systems in many parts of the country. I urge you to do whatever you can to stop this dangerous trend. There are many other technically sound methods of delivering broadband to the masses, without destroying existing communications resources.

Thank You,

Ken Brown
