Steve .. TT only has rights to the code that they wrote. If a piece is indeed reverse engineered, and it has been done before, the person doing the disassembly would have no obligation to TT. A very talented gentleman (WB8BFS Jack Giehl) did exactly what you are suggesting to the Kenwood TS-940 and marketed updated EPROMS with all kinds of neat new features for a long time.

Just curious and I don't know much about reverse engineering but just
suppose someone were able to reverse engineer the Jupiter or Orion and
come up with the necessary code, Would there be legal grounds for TenTec
to sue?
