Morse timing has two aspects.
Dit/pause ratio is very important and the value of 1 : 1
is actually optimal, i.e. it transmits the maximum possible
"amount of information" for the given average power.
Dash/dit ratio is probably less critical,
but I find 3 : 1 to be very pleasant.
Smaller values tend to sound confusing, while
larger values are simply a waste of time and energy.
In both cases, it's the technology of reception
that determines the values, not the technology of production.
