Using my Heil Proset, I adjust AF Gain to half scale and set RF Gain so that I
can just hear band noise. That's all there is to it.
Although I have the narrower cw roofing filters installed, I NEVER use them. I
was fairly active in CQ WW and ARRL160 in very crowded conditions and NEVER
used any roofing filter other than the Inrad 600hz filter (installed in place
of the TT 1Khz filter).
