I'm not sure I follow you there Jeff. Having an optional filter on the IF board is not required to activate the roofing filter but you still need to push either N1 or N2 to make it's relay kick it in line. If you wanted it on all the time I suppose you would just feed +dc to one of the control lines on the filter which would keep it's relay closed. The filter needs the relay even if you have the ssb roofer installed. That way it will still work on FM. But of course, who uses FM anyway?

Steve,

I was thinking - do you think there is a way to just have the roofing
filter on all the time without having to have N1 or N2 on?

I would like to just have the roofing filter in line without waisting N1
as a switch. If I keep the N1 and N2 filtered then I always have to
have a narrow filter with the roofer.

Jeff

Be prepared to spend about $200. Small price to pay for an Omni VI+ +.
You get to choose either the SSB or CW roofing filter. The CW filter is
600hz wide. With the programing switches, you can make it kick in when
hitting either N-1, N-2 or either.
It matters not if you have any filters in the option slots on the 9mhz
board.
This thing installs at the very beginning of the 9mhz IF chain, just like
the Orion. After this filter, the signal hits the OEM 15khz wide filter,
which has an easy job now, then through the first IF amplifier, which is
now
happy not to have so many sigs to amplify, an on to your optional 9mhz
filters.
