Yes, certain antennas do have gain. But for gain in one direction there must
be attenuation in other directions. Bear that in mind when installing that
fixed "gain" antenna. You could wind up with a null on a desired path... I
"upgraded" from a 20m dipole to a 20m EDZ and suddenly could barely work
Florida
stations that were previously strong. But northwestern stations that were
seldom herd before, were now plentiful on 20. The EDZ came down in the wind
the
other day and was replaced with a 80 ft or so wire-in-the-trees. Not the
greatest, but Florida is back once again...
