Hate to provide a canned response Eric, but I'd start with a master reset.

I don't think you should need a 300hz rolloff.  The HC-4 cartridge has
a pronounced roll-off already.  I might ordinarily suspect those xtal
filters, but I assume the Orion uses 100% dsp for tx filtering so that
wouldn't explain it.

It might be worth doing some comparison with a 2nd rig in the shack. 
Check the freq calibration between rig #2 and Orion by tuning in same
stations so you'll have an accurate gauge.  Now transmit ssb into a
dummy load and monitor yourself on the 2nd rig and check  that the
Orion tx freq isn't offset somehow and also listen to the tonal
quality of your signal.

That should get you pointed in the right direction.  If you want, drop
me a line and we can qso on 160M ssb in the evening and I'll give a
listen.
