Paul,
Before you connect a Wall Wart to the Paragon,
May I suggest that you:
1. Remove the top cover of the radio.
2. Remove your existing 8 Volt battery (with the radio on).
3. Take a voltage reading at the female 9 volt connector running to the
Logic board.
IF your Paragon has the recharging circuit installed, as I suspect it
does, since your using a Nimh battery, you should see over 13 volts at
that connector. Probably not a good idea to have a 9 volt Wall Wart
feeding into a connection that putting out 13+ volts.
There were some problems associated with the Logic board that caused
recharging problems in you rechargeable battery. There was also a
problem associated with the #257 Voice Board (optional) that drained the
battery.
Just some things for you to look at and think about.
