The older Heil adaptors that went with older TT's ,  tied the mic ground and 
the PTT ground together.

I'm not sure about the newer ones for the Orion.

I upgraded Heil adaptor by cutting the PTT ground wire from pin where it was 
tied to the mic ground.  Soldered a small wire on the back of the 4 Pin 
connector at the cable clamp,  then spliced it to the wire I had cut from 
pin 2.
