Jim,
        I had a 6n2 and "stupidly" replaced it with a 706mkIIG thinking
I'd have both the VHF and the HF bands - I do, but I really wanted great
performance on VHF. The 6n2 seemed to work a bit better for me both on
transmit and receive. The 706 is very sensitive to SWR on the line, so
on transmit, even though it's nominally lower power, the 6n2 usually
worked a bit better (full power out). I don't have a 6m antenna in the
air yet, so I'm using an HF vertical that presents a relatively low SWR
at the shack end of the coax. On Receive, the 6n2 was also marginally
better than the 706 with the preamp turned on. Selectivity with the 6n2
was noticeably better since the DSP filters are employed - but I had no
optional filters in the 706 at the time. Ergonomics wise, the 706 has
the "3-wide by 4-deep" menuing system, while the 6n2 is far simpler and
perhaps a bit clunkier. I'd rate them a wash in this regard. If
possible, try the 6n2 out before buying. I think you'll like it.

        73, Duane
