I had an OMVI-VI which I had T-T convert to an Option 3. I very much liked
the simplicity of the radio, as well as the QSK. I disliked the fact that
it didn't shift the center frequency when I wanted to use a low CW pitch,
(e.g., 400 Hz) and the fact that I had to buy a dedicated FSK filter for
RTTY that used up a precious slot. I also thought it was less than robust
on SSB TX. In the end, I sold it to get a used MP since I wanted dual
receive, which I loved for split-frequency DXing, primarily on CW.

In answer to your question about birdies, yes, mine had birdies on 10M. As
I remember they weren't that strong and weren't a major problem for me.

Subject: [TenTec] Need advice on purchasing used Omni VI

I became a Ten-Tec fan when I purchased a used Argosy II 525d
about 5 months ago - what a great little rig!
I am considering purchase of an Omni VI. Reading comments on
the merits of Opt 1 vs Opt 3 (omni vi+) have left me somewhat
confused. Some have commented that opt3 or Omni vi+ have
birdie problems. Could someone comment concerning Opt 1 VS
Opt 3 - specifically, which would be better for weak signal cw dx?
Secondly, what is the going price range for an Omni VI + 961 ps
and are additional filters still available from Ten-Tec?
I would appreciate any comments and advice and you can email
me at: htgyyw5@hal-pc.org
If this msg is not allow on the newsletter please let me know.
       Thanks, Bill Green - W5HTG
