The best surge protectors are not going to be found at some place like Best Buy. I recommend the following: Brickwall by Price Wheeler and the Industrial Communications Engineers protectors. The ICE units are sold in the U.S. by Array Solutions, and you can look at them at the AS website, www.arraysolutions.com. They are of high build quality and are reasonably priced. They also have one for 240 v. 15 amp service which you won't find in many other places.

The Brickwall I use is 115 v. with two outlets. Unlike the less expensive consumer grade products, it maintains its ability to protect after the first surge. The cheaper MOV protectors experience a degredation of protection with each surge. The Brickwall is also extremely fast. Of course there is no free lunch and you have to pay for this--mine was around 200 bucks but if you are protecting a 3 or 4 thousand dollar piece of gear it is reasonable.

for more information go to http://www.brickwall.com/
