I'm not convinced that the drift might be an initial sign of the need for a
PTO rebuild. Those are needed when the grease dries up and gets gummy.
Signs of that are a warble when tuning -- particularly noticeable on CW --
and a sort of tuning backlash. It surely won't hurt to rebuild it but you
will not need the rebuild kit. Just ask on the reflector what sort of
synthetic grease the guys recommend.

Thanks for the suggestion, Mike, I've read about that also but never looked
into it. I think I will now, just as a possibility.

I was able to copy both PSK31 and MFSK16 on my old Argonaut without any
problem at all, so I think the linear PTO can work with digital modes. I
measured my PTO today, and got about +/- 20Hz drift after half an hour
warm-up from a cold start.  I think I'll do the infamous PTO rebuild;
someone suggested that slight frequency drifting is the initial sign for
that.
