Keith here are a couple of links from the 1998 discussion when this all
began. The links are Omni VI specific but the discussion also applies to
the Omni V.

By replacing both stock IF filters with the 2.8 InRads you also improve the
sound of the transmit SSB audio.

In my opinion a win-win. That said it likely still won't sound like a
TS-830 but it will be pretty good.

My Omni V.9 had 2.8s in the IF but I took it back to the stock 2.4s when I
put it up for sale.

Rick - tell more please. With my Omni, I feel the 1.8 filters are a bit
too narrow for SSB work. I find the 2.4 to be oddly narrow as well. I
definitely get less lows and highs through that filter than my TS-830s
does through it's 2.4 KHz filter. The TT 2.4 also seems to cut some of
the highs that contribute to intelligibility. I'm not sure if I have an
issue with my rig or if that's the way they were.

With my 830s, I trim back the bandwidth (using VBT) to about 75% to get
the equivalent apparent bandwidth of the Omni V with the stock 2.4
filter.
