Normally it is not the entire dial cord which needs replacement. There is
an elastic "bungee" section which pulls the pointer down to the left. Over
time that bungee loses its elasticity. The section that Ten-Tec will mail
you contains a piece of the bungee and two little metal clips which crimp
down to hold the bungee to the dial cord section. Restringing or
replacement of the dial cord is almost never needed.
Some fellows have found long springs and have used them to replace the
bungee section.

Subject: [TenTec] Alternative stringing of Argo 509 dial cord?
Hi,
My Argonaut 509 dial cord needs to be replaced. I know that I could order
one from Ten-Tec, but at this time it is impossible for me to do so.
Has anyone replaced the dial cord on a 509 without using the official
replacement?
Any hints, pointers, etc would be appreciated.
Thanks and 73.
Geoff.
