Brad,

I must respectfully disagree with you on this one.

During the 2005 Pa QSO Party, I helped operate N3SH/Greene County from one
cabin in Ryerson Station State Park, while next door in the other cabin,
W3WH/QRP/Greene County operated. The two stations' antenna systems
overlapped. N3SH used K3VX's IC-706, while W3WH used his Argonaut V.

The IC-706, running 100 W, got clobbered by the Argonaut V running 5 W.
And by "clobbered," I mean front end overload, key clicks, and so forth. I
always knew when Bill was QRV, and heaven forbid I'd get too close to him.
But the Argonaut never was severely affected by the ICOM. If we happened to
be on the same band and close, Bill was aware of it in the background, but
never enough to bother him.

Now you can put a lot of that down to the operator -- I'll never be in his
league -- but most of it was the radios. Basically, if you didn't know
better, you'd swear that N3SH was the QRP station, and W3WH the QRO, not the
other way around!

ps -- Scott, Ten-Tec still owes me commission for talking Bill into buying
both his Argonaut V AND his Orion, and I'm not talking him into the Orion II
upgrade until you pay up! <g>

Bill,

It has been my experience that the Argonaut V does not perform particularly
well in high noise or high signal strength environments. That being said, I
don't believe your symptoms are typical of a normally functioning unit.
Hopefully some of the knowledgeable folks here will have more specific
ideas for you.

Even with those limitations, I still enjoy my Argonaut V. I sold it once,
missed it, and bought it back. It sits next to an Icom 7800 and if the band
conditions permit, I'm more likely to be playing with it than the big rig.
Hope you get it sorted out. I believe you'll really enjoy it when you do.

73,

Brad
