There is another aspect to this discussion that I haven't seen.  If you 
are are a listener SW or otherwise, you might want 2 tuners, or a manual 
tuner.  There is no way that I can see to tune an auto-tuner without 
transmitting.  And being good hams, we would never transmit out of band.
