This issue has been discussed.  In my case (and I have no idea if this
matches other's experience), it is present on the internal speaker but does
not show up on my external speaker.  Also, when using headphones, it is
audible only on one side (don't recall which, offhand).

I haven't looked at the schizmatic, but perhaps the internal and external
speakers are fed from different output channels, and one of the two is
distorting.
