Since the Orion's ALC is both hardware and software based, it can operate
over a fairly wide range of input levels and still be relatively
transparent. Theoretically, reducing your output by 3 dB and maintaining
the exact same drive would require a 3 dB decrease in your audio level,
which is a pretty small amount. This would be complicated by the fact the
Orion's mic inputs have a hardware AGC built in, so changes in the input
level would be partially offset.
